NATIONAL INJURY SURVEILLANCE CENTRE
One of the major gap in the planning and implementation of Injury related prevention strategies is
the lack of realistic data on the exact nature and spectrum of injuries coming to our hospitals.
There is also lack of actual data on the level of care being offered to these trauma/ injury victims. Most of the Injury related data coming
out of India is mortality related data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). National Injury Surveillance, Trauma Registry and Capacity Building
Center has been established recognizing the dire need for a
data management system which generates authentic information not only on the mortality related data of the road traffic injury victims.
but also about the crash related information (Injury Surveillance) as well as the information on pre hospital care given to the trauma victims, .
This will lead to improved quality
\ of trauma care as well as assist in developing evidence based policies.
NISC will act as a national
level nodal body for collecting, collating, analysing and propagating Injury Surveillance activities throughout the country.
The center will be basically involved in the injury surveillance data capture for the country and will link (in a phased manner)
all the designated trauma care facilities for collection of Injury surveillance related data. The Center will also collate and analyse the data,
providing the
policy makers with the much needed injury data in order to formulate injury prevention and management strategies. Apart from this coordination for
training in the field of trauma care will also be one of the responsibility of the centre.
